Being Prepared for being Unprepared

Today I was at the grocery store and realized I didn't have my wallet AFTER they were done checking me out. Lovely.

So I tell her I need to run home (I know all the people at the store from working there of course). And as I'm putting Leah in the van I remember I have a check book stored in the van "just in case".

Because I know how I am. lol

I am prepared for being unprepared!

25 Random Things About Me

I've been tagged what feels like a million times on facebook to do this list. So I did it there and thought I would post it here also. I had to tag 25 people on facebook so I'm not doing that again.

:)

******************

1. I'm a creative cook. For example, once on a Sunday afternoon a friend said to me "I'm craving a corn dogs." A little google-ing and 20 minutes later we were eating corn dogs that I made using wild game smoked sausage. Or tonight Leah asked me for mac & cheese. We didn't have any so I did a search and then made Alton Brown's Stovetop Mac & Cheese. I can do stuff in the kitchen.

2. I don't love to bake. Baking is more science and exact than cooking. Cooking is more art. Don't get me wrong. I can whip up a good cake but I would rather do the savory stuff.

3. I love math (and I have a BS in Mathematics). I seriously get a little high from doing a calculus problem that is several pages long. It's a thing of beauty. I used to feel embarrassed about that and even once said it was a shame that I didn't do something that inspired people - or something like that - and my grandmother said she begged to differ - math did inspire people. It inspired Isaac Newton and every famous mathematician and scientist you've ever heard of. She had a good point!

4. I would love to have a house that was deep in the woods behind a mountain. I would love if you could only get to it by snow mobile during most of the year. As long as I still had internet and cell service!

5. My child is in the basement. I should go check on her but it irritates her. She likes her own space sometimes. And then other days you'd think her life was going to explode if she got more than 3 feet away from me. What's up with that?

6. My husband and child are the center of my life.

7. I may never get over "My Own Worst Enemy" getting canceled. Criminal. I don't understand what is the matter with people. Seriously.

8. I'm a people person most of the time. And people in general drive me bonkers. That's a bit of a paradox, eh?

9. I wish I was eating Chinese food right now. Or Thai. Or Cambodian. Or Vietnamese... you get the idea.

10. I did my taxes today. January 31st. I rock. You know that, right?

11. I like intelligent, inquisitive people who make me think.

12. I love candy. Good diabetic that I am. I'm eating starburts right now but I'm picking all the pink ones out first. Then I'll start on orange. Then red. Chuck the yellow - those are nasty.

13. I'm the Google Queen. People ask me to find things. Call me, IM me, email me. I find stuff. And I love - LOVE - a good challenge. So if you have something a challenge let me know!

14. From a very young age I wanted to be a mommy. I used to always say I was going to have 12 children. That's clearly not going to happen!

15. Since we got a Wii for Christmas I have had several low blood sugar incidents. Wii is E.X.E.R.C.I.S.E. So fun! But it effects how much medicine I need. I have to check my blood sugar more carefully these days. Who would have thought? I think it's fantastic that I HAVE to play Nintendo because it's healthy for me. ;)

16. I hate commercials. We went through a period after we moved when we had no TIVO or DVR. I stopped watching TV. Seriously. I only kept up with shows that they put online.

17. I have pretended to eat plate after plate of plastic food in the last few minutes. Should I be full now?

18. Some of my favorite people in the world I met online. Some of them I've never even seen in person. It is a source of fascination to me how well you can get to know someone. Then when you meet face to face for the first time it's like you've known them forever right away - but you still have to get to know their face.

19. One of my most favorite things in the world is waking up to my daughter cuddled up to me. She's going to sleep in her own bed now and sometimes it makes me really, really sad. So many of my favorite motherhood moments have come from cosleeping with her.

20. When I'm done with this I'm going to put it on my blog. Since my blog is now linked directly to the notes on Facebook there is going to be two copies of this list in here. Hopefully I can delete one.

21. The biggest problem with hating commercials is that I never know when new shows come on. I'm really excited I found out about "Lie to Me" before it had been on for three seasons first!

22. I have two cats named Benny & Joon. And a dog named Sam. Do you know what all those names have in common?

23. I cry easily. Not as easily as I used to though. I don't know what that means exactly. But I know it's a result of the years of infertility and the adoption wait. Those were the most painful years of my life. But hallmark commercials still make me cry!

24. I love to read. Currently I'm reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. SO good. I'm on book 8.

25. My greatest wish for Leah is that she will grow and learn with a sense of the power that lies within her. That she will always approach life with a knowledge of that power. And that she will always know how wonderful she is.

Sad or Bored?

Drew and I overhauled the garage yesterday. We put up quite a few shelving units and the garage looks AWESOME.

I had this hysterical conversation with Leah at one point...

L: I'm sad

M: Oh baby! I'm sorry. Why are you sad?

L: 'Cause I just am.

M: What can I do for you?

L: I don't know.

....quiet for awhile... She heaves a HUGE sigh.

M: What's the matter?

L: I'm still sad.

M: Maybe you're bored?

L: NO! I'm SAD! I'm not bored.

.....pause.....

L: Wait. What does sad mean?

C: Well, you are sad when one of your toys breaks. Or sometimes when mommy tells you no about something. Or when Daddy leaves.

L: What does bored mean?

C: Bored is just when you wish you had something to do.

L: Yup. I'm bored.

.....I deserve credit here for the fact that I never burst out laughing. She was so seriously and so cute. It would have hurt her feelings if I had. I gave her some ideas of what to do and she was off to busy herself.

Drew was inside doing something and came back out to continue doing the garage. I told him about the conversation then and laughed to get it out of my system!

My Husband. Again.

C: Did something happen in your childhood that made you like this?

D: Well... There was this one time I was abducted by a clown.

C: That explains a lot.

D: I never have looked at cheesecake the same way. That's for sure!

C: I just don't know what to say now.

He's nuts, ya?

Happy New Year!

I wish I had a brilliant New Year's post. But alas. ;)

Looking back? This year has been a happy one. I'm content with my life. And then I start to think why? Why was it so happy?

A lot of hard things have been going on the whole time. Drew has only worked half of this year. Financially that... well, it sucks. But we've survived. I am praying mightily that this year will be better for the railroad but I'm - of course - concerned given the current state of our economy.

I have a post in my drafts about the railroad. It's hard to talk about it because so much vernacular is involved and it's hard to explain. Some day I'll get it finished and then I can always link to it when I want to talk about Drew's job.

Anyway!

It's been a good year even with these things. I want money too but I love having my husband around so much. I am SO SO grateful he is my husband and my friend.

And Leah. I'm sure that's a lot of the reason everything still seems so happy. Living life with her is a treat beyond measure!

This is her saying, "Happy New Year!" (I swear - even though she's wearing her Christmas jammies and sitting in front of a Christmas tree! lol)

And let's not forget the great end to the year! The birth of Baby John!! This is him last night contemplating the New Year. It's going to be a busy year of growth and change for him!

Life is good!
